Start a new project in MIT Appinventor. Name this TextToSpeechApp.

Now, a new screen will appear. Now change the screen title from the properties in the right panel if you bother.
I changed it to "Text To Speech App".
Now add a text box in the screen from the left palette. There you will see a basic palette where button, text box etc are kept. So, drag a text box from there and place it inside the screen. Rename it to "TextInputMessage".

Now add a TextToSpeech Component from the Other Stuff Palette.
Also add a button and rename it to "ButtonSpeak" and change its text property to "Speak".
Now open the blocks editor and Go to My Blocks>>ButtonSpeak Drawer >>Drag out ButtonSpeak.Click.
Now open the TextToSpeech1 drawer and drag out the Text To Speech1.Speak message.
Now drag TextInputMessage.Text from TextInputMessage Drawer. Arrange them like this.
Now open the TextToSpeech1 drawer and drag out the Text To Speech1.Speak message.
Now drag TextInputMessage.Text from TextInputMessage Drawer. Arrange them like this.
Now Click on New Emulator, after the emulator is fully loaded, then click on Connect to device>>Emulator 5554 or something else. enjoy the app.
